I ART FRAZER IRVING

Doodles, scribbles and misc art stuff from Frazer Irving, International Comicbook Rockstar.

Frazer Irving (BEDLAM, UNCANNY X-MEN) cover for MORNING GLORIES 028.
If you want this cover, let your retailer know! Diamond Order Code APR130560

Never one to shirk from recycling old ideas, I wouldn’t usually do it so soon after the first one was published, however Nick’s idea to make this an Homage to Bedlam in style and composition totally justified the move. And those of you who may think that it made this any easier…well, it didn’t. Still all those lines to be made, tones to splash and smears to orchestrate. But I have developed a liking for drawing freckled people having drawn this cover.

Anonymous asked: Would you be attending MCM in London? If so would you have pre-show list?

I am indeed attending MCM this month, but due to me having eleventy million pages to draw I won’t have time to do a sketch list for this show :( All I’ll be able to provide is signing for books and the quickest of doodles (providing the line isn’t too long).

So, it’s been a while since I came round these parts. Oh, I’ve been lurking fo reals, checking out what tumbls down my feed, but sadly I haven’t been able to share anything because none of it was ready for release, and I don’t get much time to do my own personal shizzle at the moment. I am a busy little bee and make no mistake.
But another Polarity cover has leaked onto the web! So I am showing it off here in higher resolution because I do rather like this one a lot. I was channelling the mighty Bill Sienkiewicz to a certain degree with the manic linework and mixed textures, because I’ve always wanted to be able to rip him off take influence from his dynamic take on reality. Tho now I’ve said that I’ll probably get comments like “Dude, that looks more like you were ripping off inspired by Dave Mckean/Rudy Nebres/Alfredo Alcala/Egon Schiele/your mom” which shows to go you that we all see art thru a different lense.
I gotta get back to drawing X-Men and other secret things, but if the nice weather holds up I’ll share the 4th Polarity cover later and leak some details about my plans to publish youtube videos of my doodling process.

Anonymous asked: I just recently started viewing your artwork and it's absolutely amazing! I see that you're on board Uncanny X-Men for issues 5, 6, and 7, do you have more issues lined up for Uncanny in the future? Thanks!

I cannot say! I’d like to do more simply because I hate working on characters for short periods and then leaving them just as we get to know each other, but these decisions are not made by me. Glad u like it tho!

Anonymous asked: Hi,Have you ever considered finishing Gutsville with the help of a kickstarter project?

No, because it’s not an issue to do with financing, more a case of opportunities and the uncontrollable creative urges that govern my existence. But it *will* be finished.

goodcomics:

Xombi volume 2, from the skilled hands of Milestone veteran writer John Rozum, and artist Frazer Irving, tells of David Kim. Former medical researcher turned ‘Xombi’, undying and in constant peak physical condition thanks to the nanomachines injected into him after an attack that left him for dead. Now, David must team up with pistol packing nuns, a superhero known as Catholic Girl, a fearless rabbi, a man full of magic and secrets, and a girl over a century old to take on old gods, old worlds, and a man who has manipulated his way into control of a floating skull castle in the sky.

Filled with everything you could want in a comic, wrapped up in six tightly paced issues, piling on the action, but never forgetting to go deeply inside of itself either, Xombi was critically acclaimed, and is more than worth a look.

Issues 1-3 can be gotten here:

#1, #2, #3

The full series can be bought in TPB form here, or check out your local comic shop:

Xombi at Amazon

How very nice of them to say so :)

Looks like someone beat me to it. Ok then, this is what happens when you let me play with the X-men.

Hello! Long time no see. I been busy clawing my way out of a creative cess-pit so far in 2013 and it looks like all that hard work is paying off.

Part of my plan to reignite the artistic fires involved doing more of that old-school drawing practice that I did waaaaay back at school/college, the sort of observational stuff that hones ones skills to the level where one can embark on a career as a professional Artiste. One of these forms of study that I was good at back in the day was life-drawing, and even tho we hardly ever did any at college I distinctly recall those sessions being very useful at exercising the art-muscle, thus I recently started attending a Burlesque Life Drawing session at a pub in Soho with a view to lose some of that art flab.

It’s been 17 years since I did this, folks. Some of you weren’t even a dirty thought back then. U know the saying “you never forget how to ride a bicycle”? Well, this is probably true but after 17 years that saddle hurts like hell and u do tend to fall off a bit. However, after some warming up and moving on to the large paper I did shake off some of that rust and managed to produce 3 drawings that I think are ok.

This will be a regular part of my week now (another aspect to the clawing-out-of-art-purgatory is getting some discipline in my life) and I will post what I draw each week so that you, dear followers, will be my virtual peer group, my ever-present nagging crowd who will ensure that I get better at this in order to make the other art even nicer for your consumption.

Speaking of which, I gotta get back to drawing the Uncanny X-Men now…

In case you aren’t following me on Instagram… This happens.

It’s…it’s like looking into a mirror….a mirror of my Soul.

Wow, Tumblr has changed its interface yet again? It seems to be ok for now…anyway, it’s a good opportunity to show another cover!
This is the art to issue 2 of Polarity, the 4-part series I’m contributing main covers for. It’s weird being a cover artist all of a sudden. I do enjoy it tho.
I’ve also been getting a fair few requests from folks who wish to buy my artworks for framing/investing etc. So I feel I should remind those curious parties out there that all of my work is currently 100% digital, and thus nothing exists in the real world. If and when this changes, I will make a noise about it do not fear.
Current workload level: mega.
Current playlist: the sound of the suburbs.
Current preoccupation: thinking about the nicotine leaving my body.

A night-cap picture for you gorgeous bastards you, before I head off to the pit for a good 4 hours snoozing (tomorrow is another busy day). This is a variant cover for Uncanny X-Men issue 1, which is drawn by Chris Bachalo for those who care. This of course means I will get a few copies of issue 1 for myself sent by Marvel, so that’ll look nice on my shelf.
I am easily pleased by such things. Good night!

So, happy new year! I’ve been a busy little bastard in Irving Towers over the holiday period, drawing, sleeping, thinking, drumming, it’s all been good. I’ve been working very hard on a couple of different projects, all lined up for a massive Irving-tastic 2013, tho besides the slow-moving-but-still-moving-nonetheless Gutsville (which some of you have enquired about, yes it’s still being drawn albeit slower than I would like because it’s a very labour-intensive gig and that’s all my fault) I cannot talk of any of these projects because that’s for the publishers to decide.
Well, I can talk about one of them as of today. See the image above? Yes, I’m drawing some X-Men, and this link will explain a little more.
It’s going to be a VERY busy spring here in Irvingville, no parties, no hiking, no orgies (except by myself), no conventions (except a day out at LSCC next month) and I may even have to cancel sleep! Still, these gigs only come along once so best I take ‘em whilst they’re hot, eh?

You beautiful people, it’s been too long since we last spoke. I know, I know…you think I don’t love you anymore. That’s not true. My heart burns with clear blue flame for your gaze, my soul aches with trembling passion for your sweet sweet words, you *must* believe me.
However I have been somewhat occupied with doodles most bizarre lately, and as is always the case I have been unable to share these trinkets of psychedelic madness because of reasons beyond my control. Despite my maverick spirit, I am a Good Dog and I respect the wishes of my masters to keep my workings private until they have had the opportunity to share them first, often labelled a “window of marketing opportunity” or something.
The good news is that one of my Art-Babies has been previewed by Boom! studios this week so I can unleash it and let it dance decadently on your dashes! This particular peice is a gatefold cover for Deathmatch issue 4 (due out in march I think), and having seen the first issue I can confidently say that it is an excellent comic, in terms of art and story, and I am proud to be associated with it. Here is a link to the series page for those of you that wish to explore it.
Ok, now that’s off my slightly hairy chest, I need to climb back onto the Art-Throne and resume my dastardly doodling of the latest secret work. It’s a tough job, but I do it for Love.
And money. x
