I ART FRAZER IRVING

Doodles, scribbles and misc art stuff from Frazer Irving, International Comicbook Rockstar.
Hola, comrades.
Been a while since I stuck my head out of the pit, and I can confirm that it’s still raining. I have also been hard at work drawing ANNIHILATOR which sees publication in a couple of short weeks. Expect me to whore myself out a bit during that glorious period.
In the meantime, one of my covers has been previewed online, so I’ll add to that here. My variant for MULTIVERSITY is above, and contains my take on some classic DC characters from another Earth. I have been told that one of them looks like Jared Leto, but I’m not so sure I see it.
Ok, time to get back inside the cave. Let me know when the hot wet weather has ended and I can rejoin the world kthx.

let-me-be-loyal asked: you're my favourite artist :3 I was wondering if you had any posters for sale online? Also in any video you do you cut out the part where you give it a really interesting texture :L I'm sure you have reasons but I'd really like to see how you do it

No posters/prints as of yet, but I’m thinking about starting that up this year simply because of the number of requests. As for the texture bit, it’s just dabs with a photoshop brush, just like with real painting. I stopped using pre-made textures a while back, so now I paint them freehand with a variety of custom brushes in potatoshop. i think the reason that part of the vid is cut is down to my forgetfullness to record :/ You may get to see the painting process a bit clearer in later vids, once I get around to posting them that is.

Anonymous asked: Hey, Mr Irving, can't you give us a tiny little preview of Annihilator? A sketch, maybe? Please? I mean, it's been a while since the cover for the first issue was revealed... I won't tell anyone. I p-r-o-m-i-s-e.

Wish I could, as I think it’s the best stuff I’ve done yet, however I’d get shouted at if I showed stuff without permission :( As soon as I’m allowed to post teasers, I’ll do so.

Anonymous asked: DO you sell your original art?

There ain’t none! It’s all digital now, so the original art aspect has ceased to exist. I must find a way around this…

I drew this cover variant for Superman Unchained at the start of the year, and it’s been published finally hence me sharing it sans le logo etc. I’m seeing the Richard Corben influence creeping in more and more, which is strange considering that I was actively repulsed by his work during my formative years (i like it now tho).

One day to go until LSCC at Excel in London, and I’m still chained to my desk drawing Annihilator pages. They’re spooky pages too. I need my blanket…

Until I can show u such stuff tho, all I have are my covers to share. the latest bunch to be released from the cage are for another series from Boom! comics, this time it’s a 4-part series about folks who come back from the dead, titled The Returned.

This link here gives more detail, as well as some fun commentary. I’ll be sat with the Boom! folks all weekend at LSCC, so feel free to drop by and say hello.

batman12spidey asked: Are there any books or anything that you think can help a person learn to draw? I don't mean be a great artist, just so I can draw something other than stick figures...

For comics, try How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way by Stan Lee and John Buscema. It covers some pretty essential basics about drawing as well, condensed into a very reader-friendly format. Beyond that, all it really takes is practice, and in doing this practice you’ll eventually develop your own style and discover your own solutions to the tricks of the trade.

Part 2 of my “look I’m not going to draw anything new because I’m far too busy” Xmas online adventure contains the 2 Marvel Holiday Special images I drew. The top one was rejected as a cover for the 2007 edition and shuffled inside the comic, whilst the lower image made it as a cover for the 2006 edition.

Merry Xmas, get suffed with food and wasted with booze. I’ll do my best to keep up whilst standing at Yggdrasil drawing these Annihilator pages.

It’s Xmas day, and as a stickler for tradition I am once again working on this day-of-quiet-streets. Hence my recycling of old imagery to contribute to the Xmas cheer online. Part 1, drunk santa!

Ahoy! Been a while since I posted any new art I think…or has it…?…that’s the trouble with being a freelancer, time loses all meaning after 14 years doing this stuff. I know it’s nearly Xmas because all my editor/freelancer chums are tweeting about taking time off for the holidays (hah! as if….) but beyond that I think it’s bin-night, and I have no idea what any of that means.
But I have been drawing! For you! And for my editors! And for my bank account! And by association, for my stomach! And perhaps for my legacy? Much of what I’m drawing right now won’t see the light of day until mid 2014, because it’s a comic series and it isn’t finished yet so we have a ways to go before I’m allowed to show stuff, but on the side I still draw covers! This one is for a new series from Boom! Studios in March, titled “The Returning”. It’s 4 issue long, and I’m doing all the covers. Yay! I like Boom!
I have another Bedlam cover to show as well, but I’ll wait till tomorrow for that. In the meantime I have another Grant Morrison script to read, so if you’ll forgive me I must pour some wine and begin the evening session in Irving Towers…

Anonymous asked: How do you paint? i mean its digital or some others paints?? thnx and great work!!!

All digital, pretty much exclusively photoshop CS5! It’s been that way since around 2007, ever since I drew Silent War for Marvel comics. Man, I bet all the ink in those bottles has dried up by now…

Anonymous asked: Hi Frazer, Is it possible for me to get a pre show commission for the thought bubbles convention this year? Many thanks. My name is Alan ( I got those iron man cover that you did ages ago)

I hope u liked the 2-face sketch! And we are on for a different Batman villain sketch every year!

bradjohnsonvstheworld asked: Hey Frazer, I was just wondering if you have anything coming out soon that I should keep an eye out for? Ever since your run on Uncanny X-Men ended I've been bummed out! You really are a fresh and exciting talent in an industry where everyone seems to be drawing the same way. I can't wait for for your book with Morrison!

Yo! Well, I think the next thing from me on the shelves will indeed be Annihilator with Grant, and that won’t be seeing the light of day until some point next year :( On the plus side tho, I have a few other things lined up for next summer so there’ll be a glut of the Irv next fall. In the meantime I’ll be posting all the covers I do for Boom here, as well as other personal art which should entertain in a non-narrative fashion.
